Established in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates in 2001, Horseworld is a leading retailer and wholesaler of equestrian products both for the horse and rider.

The company was established, and is owned by two British women, both keen horse riders with qualifications from the British Horse Society. Over the course of the past 8 years, they have established the company as the market leader for equestrian supplies in the country. A key factor to this has been the focus on expert knowledge, customer service, providing the right brands and offering competitive pricing.

Annabel Shepherd
Founding Partner

Annabel moved to Dubai in 2000 following an eclectic career in England, including forensic psychiatry, business psychology and ten years with Marks & Spencer moving from HR Management to Buying for Menswear. Horses were always a passion but with relatively little time it was a weekend hobby that covered hunter trials through to marathon carriage driving.

On arrival in Dubai, Annabel found herself a job at a stable in Jebel Ali where Katrina was working as a riding instructor. Within months of this newfound association and friendship, they got underway planning their very own ‘home away from home’ tack shop in the Middle East. At the beginning of 2001, Horseworld came into being and was originally established at the camel souk near Nad Al Sheba.

Shortly after the launch of Horseworld, Annabel took up endurance riding and competed on the UAE circuit for a number of years. In more recent years, Annabel has passed over this sport to focus on dressage with her thoroughbred horse, Arti. To compliment her knowledge of everything equine, both personally and commercially, Annabel has undertaken studying (long distance) for her Bsc. in Equine Science and also recently completed Level 1 Equine Touch Therapy. Additionally, Annabel has been instrumental in developing and sharing the concepts of Natural Horsemanship, that has assisted in the ‘re-wiring’ of her beloved ex-racehorse, whom she describes as ‘the horse of my lifetime’

Outside of this all consuming ‘horsey’ life and with whatever spare time is left, Annabel loves to spend time with the family, friends and her dogs.

Katrina Al Saidi
Founding Partner

Katrina has ridden from the age of six and owned her 1st pony at the age of 12 and was active in the pony club and competed in showing, x country and dressage competitions. Attaining her BHSAI at the age of 17 she then moved on to gain experience in a professional showjumping yard travelling with the horses to Shows and then returned to teaching to work in and eventually manage a riding large school in Yorkshire upgrading and winning BHS approval for the yard. Katrina worked in a driving yard where horses were broken to ride and then drive and also re schooling problem horses, teaching clients alongside.

Then Katrina moved to Dubai where she taught until she set up Horseworld in 2001 with Annabel. During the years at Horseworld Katrina has specialised in saddle fitting, training with the Society of Master Saddlers in the UK and Albion and Prestige and now runs the saddlery side of Horseworld. Katrina is married and lives in Sharjah with her husband Hisham and their 3 children.
